Re: Kokopelli 100 Race Date & Award Changes
Dear Racers,
2017 Kokopelli 100 Race Date Change
In recent meetings with the City of Moab and the Utah BLM, it has been recommended that we move the Kokopelli 100 race date from Labor Day weekend Saturday, Sept 2 to the following weekend Saturday, Sept 9, 2017. This recommendation is due to additional congestion that is expected from ATV use on the last 10 miles of the Kokopelli Trail (Sand Flats area).
After further review of the situation we felt that to provide the safest and most ideal mountain bike racing conditions for our athletes, we should comply with these recommendations. Our race permits and plan do allow for the Saturday, Sept 9th race date as a backup to Saturday, Sept 2. We understand that many of you will be traveling lengthy distances to participate in the Kokopelli 100 and we very much apologize for any inconveniences this may cause in your travel plans.
If any of you are now unable to participate in the race due to the change in date please contact me directly and we will issue you a full refund. Refunds due to the race date change are available from Monday, June 5 through Monday, June 12 only. We believe that moving the race to Saturday, September 9 will elevate not only our safety on the course but your overall race experience on the legendary Kokopelli Trail.
Award Changes
Moving the Kokopelli 100 race date to September 10 does mean that the race will now fall on the same week of the 2017 UCI World Championships in Cairns, Australia. This will prevent many of our pro international field from competing in 2017 and center the bulk of our participants to a US field. Because of the international pro field reduction, the top 6 men and women’s prize purse is also being adjusted accordingly. A revised finisher awards list will be included in the Kokopelli 100 Racer Guide and posted to www.kokopelli100.com no later than July 3. The Topeak Ergon Pro US Team lead by Jeremiah Bishop will be one of the US pro teams racing with us.
Because many our racers are now non-pro racers we have increased the amount of Kokopelli 100 incentives and giveaways from our sponsors to equal approximately $450 in benefit per racer. These benefits include free Groove Life rings to each participant, Bont Footwear, Rudy Project, Mountain Bike Action Magazine, Tannus Tire, Hyper Thread Apparel giveaways, discounts and much more.
The $50,000 prize purse for breaking the men’s time of 5:15 and women’s time of 5:30 is still in effect. Cash winnings are insured by Odds On Promotions Insurance Agency.
For any questions or refunds due to the race date change please contact mark@kokopelli100.com.
See you at the race!
