Pro Mountain Biker, Jeremiah Bishop Completes First Recon Ride Of The Kokopelli 100 MTB In Preparation For The September 2nd Race Worth $130,000

Moab, UT (May 25, 2017) – Jeremiah Bishop, 2 time USA National Champion, and American Leadville Course Record Holder successfully completed the 103.6 miles of the newly formed Kokopelli 100 MTB course to be held on September 2, 2017. Starting at the Westwater Airstrip, just a few miles west of the Colorado boarder and finishing at the Red Rock Elementary property in Moab, Utah Jeremiah was thrilled about the experience. “The Kokopelli has been on my bucket list ever since I started racing mountain bikes. This is an iconic trail where world champions to weekend warriors come to test themselves against one of the most beautiful and iconic backdrops and toughest terrains. This course will test your limits for sure!” said Bishop.

The Kokopelli 100 is boasting a $50,000 prize purse for the fastest male rider that can beat the 5:15 time and woman who can beat 5:30. Additional cash prizes for the top six men and women riders include, 1st place receiving $5,000, 2nd place - $4,000, 3rd place - $3,000, 4th place - $1,250, 5th place - $1,000 and 6th place - $750.

Bishop who had just completed the challenging Grand Junction Off-Road the day earlier was nonetheless eager for another day in the saddle and 103 miles. Riding primarily alone, Bishop was able to complete the entire Kokopelli 100 course in 7:48:58 (Strava time). This includes 6 minutes of Facebook live conversations and photos to his friends and family back home. In total Bishop walked away from a recon ride on the Kokopelli 100 with having spent 259 watts in normalized powder and earning 16 total Strava achievement awards, 7 of them were KOM. When asked about how the Kokopelli 100 compares to other courses he has completed Bishop said, “The Kokopelli 100 course is truly unique. It is more difficult than Leadville but there’s more oxygen. The Kokopelli is most comparable to multiple stages of the Cape Epic, all combined into one race. The Kokopelli 100’s diverse landscape is incredible! There are amazingly fast flats at the beginning. In the middle, there’s over 11,500 ft. of climbing broken up with spurts of downhill. There’s a small hike-a-bike and very technical portions along with red sand that is like baby powder. Then the last 18 or so miles are 4,000 feet straight down to the finish line. I think I actually spent more time in the air than I did on the ground coming down that last 18 miles.”

When asked about his thoughts of coming back on September 2nd to race the Kokopelli 100 Bishop said, “I am very excited about the opportunity! The Kokopelli 100 course is something that every true mountain biker will want to experience for themselves. It really does live up to the Kokopelli legend. I can’t wait to do it again, in race mode!”

The Kokopelli 100 MTB opened registration on May 15th and expects to fill the 500 permitted racing spots in the next 60 days prior to the September 2, 2017 race date.
